ALGISITE M is a sterile calcium alginate dressing consisting of a thick, highly absorbent pad of non-woven alginate fibers for the treatment of moderate to high exuding wounds.
Indicated for the treatment of partial or full thickness wounds, with moderate to high exudate such as pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, ischemic, diabetic, postoperative wounds, dehiscence, etc. ALGISITE M can be used on infected lesions under medical supervision, together with systemic antibiotic treatment, if considered necessary, with the dressing changing daily in accordance with good clinical practice.
* Indicated for COVID-19 patients for sores, ulcers or wounds due to bedrest (spending a lot of time in bed)
MEASUREMENTS: 10 cm x 10 cm
Characteristics
White nonwoven fabric of 100% calcium alginate fibers.
Action mode
ALGISITE M forms a gelled sheet upon contact with wound exudate, the excess of which is absorbed in this process. It uses the proven benefits of moist wound healing, accelerating the healing process of even difficult-to-heal wounds. When ALGISITE M absorbs the exudate from the injury, the sodium ions in the exudate replace the calcium ions in the alginate, so the fibers absorb the exudate forming a gel.
Benefits
- Highly absorbent. The hydrophilic fibers absorb 10 times the weight of the dressing.
- Promotes a moist environment suitable for wound healing.
- Minimal trauma upon removal.
- Allows wound contraction and gas exchange.
- Minimal fiber shedding.
- Minimal dressing changes, can remain up to 7 days.
- Bleeding control.
- It can be shaped, bent or cut to fit the wound.
- Easy to remove in one piece.
- Adapts to the contours of the wound.

Highly absorbent
In-vitro studies have shown that it is capable of absorbing up to 10 times its own weight in exudate. This allows it to remain in the wound for up to 7 days without needing to be changed, depending on the type of wound.
Easy to remove in one piece
It has great consistency even when wet, so it is easy to remove in one piece without breaking. Provides a moist environment for the wound.
It forms a gelled sheet upon contact with wound exudate, providing optimal moisture conditions on the surface of the injury. Prevents the formation of bedsores, favoring the healing process. The dressing allows wound contraction and gas exchange, necessary to keep the wound bed healthy.
Adapts to the contours of the wound
It is very soft and adaptable, allowing it to be molded, folded or cut to achieve the appropriate shape and size. By becoming a gelled sheet, greater contact with the lesion bed is produced and maintained.
Minimal fiber shedding
All alginates release fiber remains when handled, however, the advanced cohesion technique used in the production of ALGISITE M minimizes fiber release.
Minimal trauma upon removal
When used to treat moderate to high exuding wounds, the dressing forms a soft gel that does not adhere to the delicate tissue at the injury bed.
